Lewis Latimer served the Union trigger while in the Civil War. After his discharge, he took a career as Business boy in a very Boston patent regulation firm. But his companies have been so impressed with his drawing abilities that he shortly grew to become a patent draftsman, then the head draftsman for the agency. Latimer built the patent drawings
